First and foremost, we can’t stress the importance of properly doing your research prior to purchasing and/or taking any CBD product. As with any health related product you are considering, you should first educate yourself thoroughly prior to attempting to use it. The same applies for CBD products. With that being said, CBD is found thus far to be a very safe and natural alternative to treating a wide array of ailments. According to a WHO (World Health Organization) review, “to date, there is no evidence of recreational use of CBD or any public health-related problems associated with the use of pure CBD.”
But is CBD right me?
If you are someone who has done your research and is looking to take advantage of the benefits that cannabis delivers without having to experience the negative side effects of THC, then CBD may be the answer. If you are someone who experiences seizure conditions, then CBD may be able to assist. If you have a constant battle with anxiety, chronic pain or nausea, then CBD may be worth evaluating. If you are in a battle with drug addiction and looking for a natural healthy way to straighten yourself out, then CBD may be able to assist. At the end of the day there are many potential cures and uses for CBD, however it’s also worth noting that to date CBD has only been proven through clinical trial to help assist with specific forms of Epilepsy. Most other benefits of CBD are considered to have “preliminary evidence”, despite the very encouraging results.
Also worth noting, there has been some preliminary information that CBD may cause negative results when mixed with certain prescription medications. In the WHO review, it was reported that “CBD is generally well tolerated with a good safety profile. Reported adverse effects may be as a result of drug-drug interactions between CBD and patients’ existing medications.” For example, if someone is taking THC to treat depression, CBD may have a dampening effect on the THC.
How much is too much or not enough?
There is a large gray area here when referring to dosage of CBD products. Many products such as gummies are prepacked and dosed accordingly 10mg, 25mg, etc. per candy. Proper dosage has varied widely based on the specific individual ailment being treated and of course quality of CBD product. It’s been reported of some individuals requiring very small amounts per day (5mg-10mg), and other very large amounts (100mg-200mg+). Once again it all depends on the specific individual and situation. Be sure to once again do your research and adjust accordingly. Referencing the report by the WHO, “In general, clinical studies have reported that even high doses of oral CBD do not cause THC-like effects (e.g., impairment, increased heart rate/tachycardia, dry mouth)” however proper use and precaution should always be taken. To date there has been no reported overdoses of CBD.
Can I get addicted to CBD?
No. There is no evidence that CBD has addictive characteristics which has been confirmed through clinical trials in the treatment of Epilepsy. According to the WHO review, “In humans, CBD exhibits no effects indicative of any abuse or dependence potential”.
